Learn And Can It Be That I Should Gain in Four-Part Harmony
Press play and sing along. When you are ready, tap Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass to hear just your part, then bring the other voices back in with the sliders.
How to practice this hymn
- Play it through once and just listen.
- Sing along with everything playing.
- Turn your part up and the others down. Sing it alone.
- Bring the other parts back, one at a time.
- You have it when you can sing your part with your own slider all the way down.
About this hymn
Charles Wesley wrote this within days of his conversion in May 1738, and it still reads like someone who cannot quite believe the news. Thomas Campbell's tune Sagina, from 1825, has a long refrain where the parts chase each other. Slow the tempo down the first few times through.
