About this hymn
The words are an Irish prayer that may go back to the eighth century, put into English verse by Eleanor Hull in 1912. The tune, Slane, is an Irish folk melody named for the hill where St. Patrick lit the Easter fire. It moves in threes, so count 'one two three' under your breath until the parts settle in.
