About this hymn
Joachim Neander wrote this in 1680, drawing on Psalms 103 and 150, and Catherine Winkworth translated it in 1863. The tune Lobe den Herren is older than the words. It moves in threes with a long first note in each phrase, so breathe on the downbeat and let the phrase carry you.
